‘Chrono’ Wet Hop IPA by Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks

I’d like to kiss whoever comes up with the names and art for these beers. Chrono Trigger?! Probably the greatest SNES game of all time?! Sign me up! Why do we live in a world with 10 different Kingdom Hearts games, and no good Chrono Trigger sequel? Chrono Cross?!

Don’t ever speak of that abomination.

I got to try this and the Last Mango at the BC wet hop festival recently, and I was not disappointed. Fuggs make damn fine beer, and my regular readers probably noticed I love to review them because they seem to love video games and pop culture as much as I do! Except for whoever was running their booth anyway…I actually said out loud “Holy shit! Chrono Trigger!” and the dude pouring beer looked at me kind of funny. He obviously had no clue what I was referring to, and I died a little inside that day. He pretty much lost all credibility right there. He was probably a hired hand that didn’t do his fucking homework. Learn your beer inside and out, son. Jesus.

You had one job!

The pour is a crystal clear, sunshine amber with a finger of dull white, lumpy foam. Some great, thick curtain lacing going on. What a beautiful beer!

The smells are bold, juicy citrus fruits and herbals. Grapefruit, passion fruit, lemon, kiwi, and a sour-sugar sweetness. Smells FABULOUS!

The tastes are a little low key comparatively, but still complex and interesting. Grapefruit, orange peel, lemon, lime, olive?, whole wheat crackers, earthy herbals and a note of sour keys. It’s so fresh and bold! This is really, really nice!

The mouthfeel is slick and buttery with a mid body and good lager-esqe carbonation. Flavors creep around back, leaving the earth and citrus hints on the aftertaste.

4.5/5 Shiiiiit this is good! I’ve been burned out on IPA lately, but this is a great reminder that the style is still worthy of a look when done right, and this is right! Super right! It’s limited, so get it while it lasts!

My handstand reaction when.
