‘Old Jalopy’ Pale Ale by Powell Street Craft Brewery

“She don’t love me, she loves my auto-moe-beal” – ZZ(zzzzz) top

ZZ Top is boring as fuck, why did I choose that as a jump off point? My musical tastes can be best described as ‘anal’ and ‘elitist’ I think. My friends love to rag on me for this. They’re just jealous my tastes are much more refined than theirs are.

It’s hard being so spectacularly amazing all the time.

“What do you think of ‘band name’, Ray?..  He probably hates it!”

“Yeah, I kinda do. It’s the same THREE FUCKING CHORDS AS THE LAST SONG BUT AT A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT TEMPO GUYS.”

*cue slightly mocking laughter*

In all seriousness though, I love my friends and their questionable tastes in music and beer and food and tattoos and condiments. Mayo is greater than mustard guys. 5/7 doctors agree.

Cyan levels are fine though.

So the label is pretty drab. I was recommended this one by an employee, otherwise I would have glazed right over it. A single shade of dirt brown just doesn’t really grab me. Plus, I’m not a ‘car guy’. I can change tires, oil and do minor maintenance, but for the most part, fuck vehicles. They are a tool to get from A to B for me. If they stop getting me from A to B, then we got a problem. I want a vehicle that runs, so I can spend time doing fun things that don’t involve big, stupid pieces of shitty engineering that constantly require maintenance and upkeep. There are people that do this for a living. There are people that want to do this for a living. Fucking bonkers.

Alternator? I checked the fuses.

The pour is a clear dark amber with a finger of pure white froth, with some great clingy lacing.

The smells are pretty strong, I could smell it as I was pouring it. Pine, Apple juice, tea leaves, sweet oranges and Creamsicle. That’s niiiice.

The tastes are pretty reserved. It’s an herbal hop vs sugary sweetness, and they’re in a dead heat. Superbly balanced. Herbal hops, warm citrus, crunchy toffee, and a dry bitter earthy finish. Finally, a tasty Pale!

The mouthfeel is actually pretty light and crushable. Good carbonation. Flavors salsa around the mid palate and sloooooowwwwwly roll backwards. Earthy finish is earth and dry.

4/5 Very well done, exquisitely balanced. This is a great pale ale I could probably safely recommend to anyone that likes the style. It’s hard to find a distinguishing mark that makes it an unmissable experience, aside from saying it’s ‘English style’. I’d get this again for sure.

G-C-G-D hey? BORING AS FUCK.
