This beer was gifted to me, thanks Jez! The best part about gifted beers is the part where I didn’t have to pay for the beer. I’m kind of a cheap ass with some things, so it makes me feel a little better if the beer sucks and I have to feed it to my sister-in-laws garden.

I get Red Truck beer at concerts every now and then, but for the most part I have not gotten in to their catalog. My initial impression is that they make solid beer, but haven’t knocked my socks off. I recall their award-winning lager didn’t particularly win my praise, but that’s an unfortunate side effect of being a lager: simple to a fault. I could be bias because I drive a black truck. Black with rust polka-dot. I care so deeply about how my vehicle appears, in the eyes of others.
The label is somewhat lacking. I noticed when I post up certain beers online, that the more interesting labels always end up getting the most attention/likes/retweets/etc. Kind of like whenever I post a picture with some tig ol’ bitties, people click on the pictures way more often. The lesson? If you want to grab someone’s attention, sweater-stretchers are one of the best ways to achieve that.
The pour is a clear dark mahogany about three solid fingers of tan, puffy foam. Sort of resembles A-B foam. Not much lacing despite the enormous head.
The smells are cold-press coffee, dirt, semisweet chocolate and wet wheat. It’s a very mild aroma overall.
The tastes are cold-press dark roasted coffee, tobacco, dirt, bitter herbs and brown bread. It’s only mildly bitter, as a lager should be, and it showcases the ‘Dark side’ malt profiles really well. This is really well done!
The mouthfeel is light and turbulent, the carbonation is nutzo. I was pouring gently, half the mug was foam, and it’s still insanely bubbly. Dafuq man.
4/5 Would be a bit better if the carbonation wasn’t so crazy, but it’s still a great beer. Recommended for people that can appreciate a Guinness or a lager, and want to try both at once. This beer does that expertly.
