‘The Hound of Barkerville’ Brown Ale by Barkerville Brewing

Always alliterative ale, amirite?

I tried this on tap at the Billy Miner ale house last week and was thoroughly impressed so I’m hoping that it’s as good via big bottle.

Nice!... How do we open it?

I love the labelling on Barkerville beers, bold and expressive. Extra points for the classy, unique, fired-on label. It ‘pops’, and that’s important in the ever expanding world of craft beer.

Aaaaaand it’s as good as on tap. Damn close, anyhow.

Close enough.

Deep brown with low carbonation, this is a mellow sweet-ish ale that showcases the milder, low note malt flavors exquisitely. Toffee, dark chocolate and toasted marshmallows are prevalent with very low bitter clove hops at the edges. Nice nutty afterglow on it too. Not overly sweet or heavy like a stout.

This is a smooth experience and the alcoholic content (%5.9) is practically undetectable. This is probably another ‘whoops I’m suddenly smashed’ type of beer. I knew Barkerville had to have an amazing beer in the lineup somewhere. Found it!

“WHOO-OOA BROWN BARKER
BLOWN DE BLOWN.
WHOO-OOA BROWN BARKER
BLOWN DE BLOWN.
I LIKE THIS BEER, BLOWN DE BLOWN.” – Ram Jam (the misinterpreted, off-key b-side dub-step remix)

Everything has to have a stupid dubstep remix.

4.5/5 Mmmm yea that’s my jam! Great ale, slightly better on tap but the bottle does it justice. Best brown ale I’ve ever had. Highly recommended!
