‘Hollow Tree’ Red ale by Big Rock Brewing

I’ve been looking forward to this one, as I have heard good things about it.

Big Rock generally has neat and unique labels (and unremarkable beers), but I think this one probably takes the cake. Even if the cake is a lie.

This brew pours a nice rusty copper color with a good two fingers of head. The taste has a sharp, acidy, bitter edge, with a fairly bitter finish. Like it stabs you, then gently rocks you until the ambulance comes. Has a wonderful smoky toffee flavor and aroma with a woodsy bark-like overtone. “Damn! You like bitter beers!” according to my brother.

It’s not overpowering at all and I found myself drinking this down quickly. A very smooth, delicious Red that left me wanting more.

The words of the immortal Master P come to mind.

“Y’all live for bitches and blunts, we live for weeeed and money”.

Which has literally nothing to do with this scrumptious beer, but for some reason, those are the exact lyrics that I thought of.

“MAKE EM SAY UHHHHHH” – Masta P (duh-huh-huh)

Bout it bout it.

Absolutely delectable beer, I highly recommend it. This beer is replacing wheats/grains in my diet from now on.

4.5/5 – Fantastic red ale, one of the best I’ve ever tried. If you can find it, try it.
